West Michigan is in the middle of a Winter Storm Warning that is creating whiteout conditions from heavy lake effect snow.
The warning lasts until Thursday afternoon. The region has seen several multi-vehicle wrecks on area highways on Tuesday due to the driving conditions. The region is experiencing heavy lake effect snow due in part to the fact that Lake Michigan is relatively warm and is helping crank up the lake effect snow machine.
Wind chills in the Grand Rapids and lakeshore regions are expected to dip to the -20 to -30 degree range Wednesday morning, which is near record lows. Areas near the Michigan / Indiana border will have wind chills nearing -50
