Morning Forecast, Thursday January 31, 2019


Temperatures this morning are below zero and factoring in the wind chills, many areas this morning will feel like it is twenty to thirty below zero. The National Weather Service continues a Wind Chill Warning for Jefferson and Indiana Counties until Friday at 7:00 AM. A Wind Chill Warning for Elk, Northern Centre, Clearfield, Cambria and Somerset Counties until today at noon.  A Wind Chill Advisory until today at 12:00 PM for Southern Centre, Huntingdon, Blair, and Bedford. With cold like this, it can take less than ten minutes to experience frostbite. You’ll want to limit time outside, and if you have to go out make sure to bundle up. Make sure to check on your neighbors and also make sure your pets are warm.

 Today the bitter cold air will stay with us, despite some sunshine. High temperatures today will be in the lower to mid single digits. Again with the winds factored in, it will feel like it is below zero. Today we will have winds between ten to fifteen miles an hour from the west and gusts will be even higher. Today high pressure will build into the area and we will have sunshine mixing in with some clouds. Tonight will be mainly clear at first  and temperatures will tumble back to around or below zero degrees, but then clouds increase overnight and temperatures will begin to rise. 

A low pressure system will move in tomorrow and bring us a light snowfall. At this point it looks like southern areas will have more of the snowfall compared to the north. Our high temperatures on Friday will be in the mid to upper teens. Friday night there will be patchy clouds with low temperatures in the single digits. You’ll want to bundle up if you are headed to Gobblers Knob for Groundhog Day. It will be in the single digits to start off Saturday morning.

Saturday for Groundhog Day we will have a rather cloudy sky and even some freezing drizzle with high temperatures in the mid to upper 20s. Sunday will also be a rather cloudy day with a bit of drizzle. High temperatures on Sunday will be in the lower to mid 40s. Monday we will have a rather cloudy day with showers around. High temperatures on Monday will reach into the lower to mid 40s. Tuesday we will have showers early and then clouds will try to break. Our high temperatures on Tuesday will be in the mid to upper 40s. The rest of next week we will have a warm up for a brief time with high temperatures in the upper 30s to lower 40s.
