Midday Forecast, Friday January 18, 2019

This afternoon there will be clouds mixing in with some sunshine. Scattered snow showers will hang around in the west into the afternoon hours while eastern counties will see some peeks of sunshine. Our high temperatures today will be in the lower to mid 30s. Tonight we will have low temperatures in the lower to mid 20s with variable cloudiness.

Over the weekend we are watching for how this winter storm will impact us. At this time, it looks like clouds thicken and precipitation will arrive Saturday afternoon. Saturday’s high temperatures will be in the upper 20s to lower 30s. At this point, it looks like Saturday afternoon we will see the precipitation start as snow and then switch to a wintry mix before it switches back to snowfall.  If we do have rain and ice, this will significantly impact snowfall amounts and lessen them. However, ice will still create traveling hazards. This will be a plowable snow for many in our region with just above or below 10 to12” of snow for many areas. Due to this the National Weather Service has issued a Winter Storm Watch for the entire viewing area from Saturday afternoon until Sunday at 4:00 PM. Saturday evening and into Saturday night it is best to stay off the roads as it will be hard for plows to keep up with the snowfall rates, which could be 1 to 2” per hour. Saturday night our low temperatures will be in the 20s.

Sunday we will have a cloudy day with snowfall tapering to snow showers. Our high temperatures on Sunday will be in the upper 20s to lower 30s, early in the day and temperatures will tumble. Snow will taper off later Sunday and clouds will break as it becomes windy. Sunday night looks cold with temperatures in the single digits. Monday the cold will stick around. Monday will be a bitter cold day.  Our high temperatures on Monday will be in the teens. Windy conditions will make it feel even colder.  We will have a mix of clouds and sunshine on Monday. There could be some lingering flurries on Monday. Monday night temperatures will drop below zero and into the single digits. Please make sure your neighbors and pets stay warm as this bitter cold air is with us over Sunday and into Monday. Winds will make many areas feel like it is below zero. Tuesday we will have sunshine with clouds mixed in. Our high temperatures on Tuesday will be in the mid to upper 20s.
