Tonight will be partly to mostly cloudy, brisk and much colder. There will still be a couple of flurries and snow showers that will once again more numerous toward the morning hours. Temperatures tonight will drift downward reaching into the single digits to the lower teens by sunrise.
A second arctic front will move through early Wednesday with another round of snow showers and a heavier squall. Once again this will cause roads to become slick and changing conditions for the morning commute. Behind the front, temperatures will likely drop into the single digits with a bitter wind. Once we get below 10° early Wednesday we will likely not rise out of the single digits until sometime Friday afternoon. We’ll have some sunshine Wednesday afternoon and Thursday, but that sun will only be out for moral support. It will turn dangerously cold at night with wind chills well below zero. Wind chill advisories and warnings will be in effect for the entire region. Temperatures Wednesday night and Thursday night will drop well below zero.
A disturbance may bring a period of light snow Friday, especially the farther south you are in the region. This system can bring a quick few inches in places and will help to keep temperatures from rising higher than the middle to upper teens. Behind the system, it will still be frigid Friday night with in the single digits to below zero. It may be below zero when Phil comes out of his burrow at Gobbler’s Knob Saturday morning but the sky looks like it would be clear. Saturday afternoon will not be quite as cold with some sunshine and highs in the 20s. We’ll turn even milder on Sunday despite an increase in cloudiness. Some drizzle and a bit of rain is likely later Sunday into Sunday night and some of that may freeze on untreated surfaces. Temperatures should rebound well into the 30s on Sunday. We’ll have an even milder day on Monday despite some rain showers. Temperatures should reach to near 40 on Monday and then stay above freezing with some showers and drizzle Monday night into Tuesday morning. With clouds breaking for some sunshine we may reach the middle 40s Tuesday afternoon.
