The storms that brought us all the snow Thursday and Friday is long gone. Any melting that occurred throughout Friday could refreeze Friday night. Temperatures tonight will fall into the mid to upper 20s. With temperatures falling well below the freezing mark tonight the roads will have a greater chance of refreezing.
Bridges and overpasses will freeze before roads. That is because cold air is above and below the road surface. This leads to the bridges and over passing freezing first.
Roads normally have one side of the surface with temperatures below freezing. The day time heating heats the ground and roads up and the roads hold on to that heat longer which normally keeps the road surface temperatures above freezing. Making it harder for roads tor freezes.
Take it slow on the roads tonight and Saturday morning. If the ground looks wet and shiny expect it to be icy.
