Ski Report 1.27.17

Mother Nature really tried to take a big toll on the resorts last week. I was out skiing last weekend and still actually had a good time at Blue Knob. In fact, it allowed me to get into the sunshine and away from the valley gray and fog. Despite the warm weather I was still able to go top to bottom and enjoy every turn. Slope counts did go down but the pattern has changed and now some new snow and snowmaking are allowing the resorts to turn around. Laurel Mountain did close but will reopen on Sunday. The rest of the Pennsylvania resorts have about the same number of slopes open this Friday and should open up more over the weekend. Wisp is making snow and hopefully the north camp will be able to reopen over the weekend. The New York resorts are still in great shape and are getting more snow over the weekend.

As for the weather, there will be some bands of lake effect snow close to the New York resorts. Farther to the south we’re going to have a break from the snow on Saturday but then some more snow showers will bring a fresh covering Saturday night and Sunday. It will be a cold and blustery weekend so make sure you grab some of the cold weather gear.

Happy Turns,

Joe Murgo
