Matt Alvarez joined WTAJ bringing 15 years experience in broadcast television. During his career, Alvarez earned an Edward R. Murrow Award and an Emmy nomination for stories he covered while working in Nashville and New York.
While in NY, Matt uncovered what local leaders called a “national security flaw” at Newark Liberty Airport, where delivery trucks were not being properly checked before entering the airport tarmac for the contents inside. This story earned Matt an Emmy nomination and also a phone call from the Department of Homeland Security on his findings.
While in Nashville, Matt was seen covering many severe weather events including numerous tornadoes, a tropical storm, the East Tennessee wildfires, and a rare large snowstorm to hit Music City.
A graduate of Robert Morris University in Pittsburgh, Alvarez earned a B.A. in Communication with a minor in International Studies.
Born and raised in Pennsylvania, Matt is glad to be back in the Keystone State, and enjoys the great outdoors, attending concerts and sporting events. Matt particularly likes the Central PA area because of the mountainous terrain and great scenery.
