SFU softball to host NEC Tournament

The Saint Francis softball team completed an undefeated regular season in Northeast Conference play and is set to host the NEC Softball Tournament this weekend, May 11-13.  SFU is hosting the tournament for the first time in program history.

The Red Flash, led by Head Coach Jennifer Patrick-Swift, is 45-9 overall and went 16-0 in the NEC in the regular season.  Saint Francis has won 18 straight games and 33 of its last 34 games.  SFU is just two wins away from the NEC record, set by UMBC in 2002.  SFU is ranked 59th in the RPI and received seven votes in last week’s USA Today/NFCA Coaches Poll.

Saint Francis has already set program records for wins, steals(99) and strikeouts(289).  Individually, junior Jordan Seneca (Plum, Pa./Plum) has set SFU season records for home runs(21), RBI(63) and walks(43).  Seneca set a new NEC record for homers and is one away from the RBI record.  Sophomore Cheyenne McKee (DuBois, Pa./DuBois) has set new SFU records for hits(66) and runs(61).

Tickets will be available on each day of the tournament.  Adult tickets are $6, Age 11-18 and senior citizen tickets are $3 and Age 10 and under is free.  Students who present a college I.D. from an NEC school will also get in free.

The Cooper Cheese truck will be at the tournament on Friday, from Noon to 4 p.m., and Saturday from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.  The truck will serve free grilled cheese sandwiches.  Cooper Cheese, an NEC sponsor, will also give away T-Shirts and sunglasses.

All games of the tournament will be shown on NEC Front Row, with John Cabral and Paul Dottino on the call.
