Manager Michael Ryan tagged J.T. Brubaker to be the Altoona Curve’s Opening Day starter Thursday.
The Springfield, Ohio native posted a 3.40 ERA in the final 16 games he pitched in, one of many reasons Ryan used to name the University of Akron product this special honor.
“A guy that I felt comfortable with to go Opening Day especially in front of our home crowd and something that I wanted to reward him with and it’s exactly what he put himself in position to do. He’s a big game pitcher in my opinion and what’s the bigger game than opening day,” Ryan said.
“To be in front of a crowd coming off a Championship season is exciting getting ready to go for the season and I think what it means to be the opening day starter is to start the season off right,” Brubaker said.
