Steelers host red hot Panthers on Thursday Night Football

Winners of their last four games, the Pittsburgh Steelers (5-2-1) welcome in the Carolina Panthers (6-2) to Heinz Field to kickoff week 10 in the NFL.

Pittsburgh Inactives:

QB Mason Rudolph, WR Justin Hunter, S Marcus Allen, CB Brian Allen, OT Zach Banner, OT Marcus Gilbert, DT Dan McCullers

Carolina Inactives:

WR Torrey Smith, CB Josh Hawkins, RB Cameron Artis-Payne, LB Andre Smith, G Brandon Mahon, DE Bryan Cox Jr., DE Marcus Haynes.

1st Quarter:

Steelers won the toss, and deferred to the second half. Carolina will receive.

Panthers RB Christian McCaffery gashed the Steelers defense on the opening drive of the game. Multiple rushes of 20+ yards, converts a 4th and 1 from the Steelers 22. Finishes off with a McCaffery TD reception. 9 plays, 75 yards in 4:31. Carolina 7 Pittsburgh 0.

Steelers waste no time getting the touchdown back. Roethisberger finds JuJu Smith-Schuster behind the defense. 1 play, 75 yard drive and bam we have a tied game at 7.

On the Panthers first play of their next drive, Newton is pressured by TJ Watt, throws a prayer back across his body, and Vince Williams picks it and makes a house call. Pittsburgh 14 Carolina 7.

Steelers force a three-and-out on the next drive. Pittsburgh takes over at their own 39.

Steelers go right down and score. James Conner finally gets some touches and pounds his way into the endzone. Pittsburgh 21 Carolina 7. Antonio Brown got some good looks on that drive, plus a little misdirection from Smith-Schuster. 8 plays 61 yard drive.

Panthers moving the ball as the first quarter comes to a close. Carolina will have 3rd and 12 to begin the 2nd. Steelers generating a lot of pressure on Newton, including two sacks on this drive.

2nd Quarter:

Newton throws incomplete on the first play of the 2nd, and the Panthers have to punt. Steelers take over at their own 8 yard line.

Steelers move the ball into Panthers territory, the drive stalls, but Chris Boswell boots a 50 yard field goal. 9 plays, 60 yard drive. Pittsburgh 24 Carolina 7. 9:46 left till halftime.

Carolina shows some life on its next drive. They go 9 plays, 73 yards and Newton finds McCaffery for his 2nd touchdown of the night. Pittsburgh 24 Carolina 14. 5:04 left till halftime.

Steelers quickly extend the lead back to 17. 4 play, 75 yard drive capped by a 53 yard TD pass from Roethlisberger to Brown. Pittsburgh 31 Carolina 14.

Panthers get a drive going but TJ Watt forces a fumble causing the the Panthers to lose big yardage. Steelers get the ball back after a Carolina punt at their own 11 with 1:02 left.

Halftime | Steelers 31 Panthers 14. Pittsburgh outgaining Carolina 296-206. Roethlisberger 12-13, 234 yards, 2 TD.

3rd Quarter:

Steelers open the second half with a methodical 6:42 drive in 12 plays covering 75 yards. Pittsburgh converts three 3rd downs including their last play, Roethlisberger to Vance McDonald in the back of the end zone. Steelers 38 Panthers 14.

Steelers force a 3-and-out. They take over at their own 35. Pittsburgh then goes on an 11 play, 65 yard drive capped by a 8 yard Roethlisberger to Jesse James TD. Steelers 45 Panthers 14. 

Steelers’ recover a fumble on the ensuing kickoff and wil have it 2nd and 6 from the 6 when the fourth quarter begins.

4th Quarter:

Roethlisberger throws his fourth TD pass of the game. Pittsburgh 52 Carolina 14.
