The sounds of the Doo-Wop era are drawing crowds in Centre County this summer. Jeff Brown, Lisa Lenze, Luke Lorenz, Eric Mcginnis, John Zimmerman and Tom Wilson, make up “Rama Lama”.
Tom Wilson describes their music as, ” a rough kind of street music sung in gritty streets of Philadelphia and New York. They worry about diction. [You] have to rough it up a bit. It can’t be clean and precise.”
The ensemble is inspired by the music of the 50’s and 60’s. They take their music seriously, but love to have fun doing it.
Wilson says one of their favortite things to do during performances is play ‘stump the band’.
“We ask people to think of song recorded between 1954 -1964. If we don’t know part of the song, we’ll give them a gift certificate to Dairy Queen”
The band has only been together a short time, but they have a big following.
Rama lama’s next performance is at the Festival of the Arts on Sunday, July 17th on the old main lawn.
