Woman pleads guilty to arson

A DuBois woman pleaded guilty to arson after setting the bathroom on fire at the Sandy Club.

Police say Desiree Updyke, 32, will serve at least 22 months in prison under the terms of the plea deal.

Sentencing will happen within 90 days.

Police said she lit up some toilet paper last November because the bartender cut her off from drinking even though there were still 19 people in the bar.

The fire was contained to the bathroom stall in the women’s room, and the bathroom was later repaired.

“I think the outcome went well everybody agreed upon the agreement. It was just selfish that she had an issue it was just selfish and it was a terrible act,” says Sandy Hose Co. Fire Chief William Beers.

The fire company says she’ll also have to pay for nearly $30,000 in damages.

She was scheduled for a four-day trial to start today.
