Police: School employee steals furnace

News
Police say a DuBois school employee stole a furnace valued at more than $700.

The complaint says the assistant superintendent noticed the furnace was missing while sweeping at the old Highland Street school.

School police say HVAC maintenance man Kevin Caine, 42, showed them a different Airtemp furnace, and later proceeded to return the missing one to a locked room at Mansell Stadium around 5 a.m. last Tuesday.

Police say someone spotted him, and he eventually admitted to installing it for heat at his house, which his father owns.

Caine is charged with first-degree misdemeanor theft.

The school board accepted Caine’s resignation via letter at their meeting last Thursday, according to superintendent Luke Lansberry.
