If you even think you might have an issue with your heart, you need to get it checked out right away, and that will get easier this spring for folks in the Huntingdon County area.
A new cardiac catheterization lab is under construction at J.C. Blair Memorial Hospital. It’s expected to be completed in April and to open in May.
When patients come to the hospital’s emergency room with chest pain, shortness of breath, and other symptoms of a heart attack, doctors can diagnose and often treat them right in a cath lab.
“So, if somebody is having a heart attack they could come here to J.C. Blair, go right into the cath lab and that vessel could be opened up much faster than having to travel a longer distance,” said Adam Dimm, Chief Operating Officer, J.C. Blair Memorial Hospital.
The hospital plans to add diagnostic and treatment procedures for the legs, such as angiograms, angioplasty and stents. A congestive heart clinic and a pacemaker/defibrillator clinic will also be part of the new cardiac care center.
