A homeless man was arrested for sexually molesting a child.

The Okaloosa County Sheriff’s office arrested John Stapleton, 60, on Thursday after he sexually molested a six-year-old girl at a school being used for a hurricane shelter.

The incident occurred Wednesday around 2:20 p.m. at Davidson Middle School, where people were seeking shelter from Hurricane Michael.

A witness told OCSO deputies she saw a recording of Stapleton touching the victim’s back, upper buttocks, breast, and inner thigh area underneath her clothing.

Investigators reviewed the video and Stapleton later admitted touching the victim, but not in a lewd manner.

Stapleton is being charged with lewd molestation of a victim under the age of 12.
