Man sought in fatal stabbing of girlfriend turns himself in

PITCAIRN, Pa. (AP) — A man sought in the fatal stabbing of his girlfriend during an argument in their western Pennsylvania home last weekend has turned himself into authorities.

A warrant had been issued Sunday for 59-year-old Derrick Avant, who is charged with criminal homicide in the death of 55-year-old Alison Fritzius. Police found her Sunday night when they responded to a disturbance call.

Allegheny County police say Avant surrendered Wednesday at the Rankin police station. He was being held without bond, and it wasn’t known Thursday if he’s retained an attorney.

Authorities say Fritzius was found on the porch of a home. But they say she apparently had been moved to that site from the couple’s Pitcairn home.

Fritzius was taken to a hospital but died there a short time later.
