Our sister station, WBRE, reported that a woman has been arrested after police said she stole an ambulance and led them on a chase through part of Lackawanna County.

Police said Stephanie Schwambach, 44, of Shillington, stole the ambulance from Geisinger Community Medical Center in Scranton around 11 p.m. Thursday. Olyphant Police said Schwambach doused herself with diesel fuel and crashed a U-Haul truck near Geisinger CMC’s helipad before she stole the ambulance.

Police tried to stop Schwambach on Lackawanna Avenue, but she escaped after hitting two cars.

Schwambach ended up crashing after leading the police to Dickson City. Police told WBRE that she drove right off a man’s driveway into a patch of trees at the intersection of Amherst and Templeton Drives.

Schwambach was taken to Geisinger Community Medical Center for evaluation and she was arraigned by a judge at the hospital.

Schwambach is facing several charges, including fleeing and eluding, aggravated assault, recklessly endangering another person, receiving stolen property, and other serious traffic violations. Her bail has been set at $25,000.

Schwambach is expected to face even more charges in the future. It will be up to Scranton Police to charge her for the actual theft of the ambulance.
