Will new counties influence 15th Congressional District race?

Local News

Central PA- This is the first general election since the PA Congressional District lines were re-drawn earlier this year. That gives many voters different candidates than they’ve seen in previous years, including those in the 15th district.

The current map for part of central PA includes the 5th Congressional District. It’s represented by republican congressman Glenn Thompson.

But come election day, voters in Cambria, Indiana, Armstrong, and portions of Butler County will have two new names on the ballot.

Congressman Thompson and Democratic challenger Susan Boser….

They’ll square off in a new look, and newly numbered 15th Congressional District. Each candidate gave their thoughts how the new map will impact their chances for victory

“It’s gone well… there are a lot of similarities between the counties, they’re obviously contiguous with existing counties that i serve and represent, and a lot of the issues are very much the same,” Congressman Thompson said.

“There has been a ground-swell of energy I did not anticipate… I knew nothing about, that is rising up and I think honestly has the potential to lead to some surprises,” Boser said.

The two have different takes on how the new map will swing the vote in their favor,

Congressman Thompson feeling a similarity between the new and old counties in the district acts in his favor…and Susan Boser indicating that the new counties bring an added energy to her campaign.
