Volunteer Week: Mountain Lion Backpack Program

Local News

WTAJ This Morning kicked off Volunteer Week Monday!

Up first was the Altoona Mountain Lion Backpack Program.  The volunteer-based program is instrumental in trying to help give are elementary kids meals on weekends.

Amber Smith is The Program Director for the group.

“To be able to have the community’s support that we have, both monetary and with food and especially our volunteers, we’re able to provide food for those elementary students over the weekend,” said Smith.

Smith also says the program gets an average of 30 or more volunteers each week.  They help pack the food bags, and also help load them up in boxes and deliver them to area schools.

The Mountain Lion Backpack Program has two more scheduled volunteer dates, May 2nd and May 9th. They meet at 2900 Beale Ave in Altoona.
