State College, Pa- WTAJ has an update on delays expected next week on Atherton Street, due to various work projects.

For all of next week, beginning Monday, March 18, crews will be working to install a waterline on Atherton St. between Ridge Avenue and Park Avenue. The work will take place both during the day, and at night. Traffic will be down to one lane going each way.

Another project continuing next week is the installation of drainage on Atherton, specifically between West Mitchell Avenue and West Hillcrest Avenue. This will close one inbound and outbound lane as well.

Verizon will also be splicing fiber optic cables next week between Cherry Lane and Park Avenue. This work will close one lane for those exiting the downtown area. Work on this project will take place during the day and at night.

The speed limit on North Atherton Street will remain 25 miles per hour through the length of the project, from Aaron Drive to Park Avenue.

Work on the North Atherton Street project will continue through the fall include: relocation of utility, water and sewer lines,  drainage improvements, curbing, sidewalks, ADA ramps, traffic signal upgrades, a new concrete median and paving.

The next portion of the project will begin in 2020, where work will begin from Atherton’s intersection with Park Avenue to Westerly Parkway.
