Local News

ST. MARYS, Pa. (WTAJ) — Drivers in Elk County may want to allow extra time for their commute to work this week.

Crews in began to replace the bridge spanning Silver Run on Route 255 in St. Marys today. The bridge spans from Silver Run at the intersection of Joseph Road and Route 255.

A detour is now in place and will last at least two weeks. Traffic will be detoured using Route 120, Route 219 and Route 255.

Drivers should be aware of the following conditions during the closure:

  • Only emergency vehicles will be allowed to cross the bridge while the road is closed.
  • Local traffic will be able to access East Joseph Road from Route 255 coming from the hospital or St. Marys area and West Joseph Road from Route 255 coming from the Johnsonburg area.
  • Drivers in the area are asked to find alternative routes.
  • Work is dependent on the weather

Even after the detour is lifted, road work will continue and flaggers will direct traffic as needed.

Drivers can check for road and weather conditions before they get on the road.
