Tonight at the State College Area School District’s monthly “Straight Talk” session, parents talked about diversity and how to deal with the issues it causes in their schools, like bullying.
Dr. Seria Chatters, host of the event ,says to help your child understand and accept diversity, you should make sure they’re getting exposed to it through the TV shows, books and toys they see on a daily basis.
“Through these types of mechanisms we can expose our children to a world of diversity, a world of diverse backgrounds, individuals that come from different circumstances,” Dr. Seria Chatters, Director of Diversity and Inclusively, for the State College Area School District, said.
She also says there are plenty of family friendly multicultural events that happen on and around the Penn State Campus.
The next “Straight Talk” session in January will focus on how to talk to your child about mental health and suicide prevention.
