Students are donating holiday care packages to their neighbors in need.

This season, Penn State DuBois students in the Human Development and Family Studies (HDFS) Club are purchasing items and assembling holiday care packages for those in need.

Packages include nonperishable food, blankets, paper products, personal hygiene products, such as soap, shampoo, and toothpaste, and more.

These packages were delivered to residents at Crossroads in Punxsutawney, a domestic abuse shelter, Haven house in DuBois, a temporary housing facility for the homeless, and the Pentz Run adolescent housing facility in DuBois.

To help these organizations, students have donated household items to create the care packages and have posted fundraising drives to raise money to purchase additional items.

“I feel this project is important to complete every year because there are individuals right in our own hometowns who don’t have the things that we take for granted every day under our own lives,” said HDFS Club President Laura Ruane. “I feel it’s important that they can take care of their basic needs.”
