State police charge man in early morning standoff in Reynoldsville

UPDATE: Police have arrested and charged a man involved in the standoff between he and state police this morning in Reynoldsville.

State Police in DuBois say they were called around 3:15 this morning to the 100 block of Brown Street in Reynoldsville, with a report of a 44 year old male threatening people in his home with a firearm.

Police say 44 year old Steven James Shaffer got into an argument with the people in his home, and an altercation ensued. Them, Shaffer shot four rounds from a Smith and Wesson AR-15 inside the house.

The victims disarmed Shaffer before leaving the house, and there are no reported injuries.

A perimeter of several responding police departments surrounded the house, including members of PSP from DuBois, Punxsutawney, Clarion, and Marienville.

Shaffer ended up surrendering around 11:20 am.

Police then arrested Shaffer, and he is facing several charges, including discharge of a firearm into an occupied structure, recklessly endangering another person among other charges.

Police will continue to investigate the situation.


State Police are securing the house, and troopers are still currently on scene.

Police say the home is on the 100 block of Brown Street in Reynoldsville.

According to neighbors of the nearby homes, police told them go into their basements around 6 am this morning. Later, police told them to evacuate their homes.
