State College school hosts active shooter training

STATE COLLEGE, Pa. (WTAJ) — A local prep school is helping its staff, churches, and non-profits prepare for an active shooter situation.

Survival Mindset is a training program that teaches everyday people how to respond to high-pressure scenarios.

The group came to Grace Prep High School in State College Monday to go over a number of situations, like how they can come up with a plan in an active shooter situation and to ways to be aware of your surroundings.

“We were in the sanctuary today in the main room of the school and we had our eyes closed and we were asked how many exits are there in this room? And most of us, I’ve been in this room and I work here and most of us said 5 or 6. When we looked around there were even more than that because we hadn’t considered the windows and things like that,” explains Grace Prep Found Bob Gresh.

Students weren’t at the training Monday.

So the staff did an active session in the afternoon to put what they’ve learned into action.
