State College Borough Moves Forward With Plans For Parking Garage

Local News

State College, Pa- A Centre County borough is moving forward with plans on a joint-parking garage.

WTAJ spoke with State College Borough Council president Evan Myers who said that completion of the garage depends on the results of a design study and construction feasibility study which the borough unanimously approved to move forward with Monday evening.

The proposed sight for the garage is in between the State College Borough Building and the State College Day’s Inn. The proposed garage would hold approximately 500 cars.

At the moment some of the main questions Borough Council members are focusing on include: how will traffic flow in and out of the garage, and how will its design fit the ambience of downtown State College?

The main question on many local minds: Who will be able to park in the garage?

Borough Council President Myers said, “Some of the spaces will be attributed specifically to Day’s Inn customers, the folks staying there, and some of it will be reserved for Borough business… the additional spaces we’re going to create will be for public parking.”

The Borough plans to pay for this garage using funds generated by other parking garages.

Council president Myers told WTAJ once the garage is up and running, it will be self sustaining.

While there is no precise timeline as to when the garage will be complete, Borough Council hopes the project won’t take more than 2 years to finish.
