“Sponsor Program” Helps Student Veterans Adjust to Life at PSU

In honor of Veteran’s Day today we’re taking a look at a Penn State program offered for veterans.

It’s called the Sponsor Program.  The Office of Veterans Programs at Penn State places a student veteran sponsor with a student veteran sponsee.  The sponsor answers questions and helps them adjust to college.


Penn State student and marine veteran Kyle Larson says, having a student veteran sponsor helped him feel comfortable at Penn State.

The sponsors mentor the sponsees for the entire school year.  Penn State hopes this student veteran program will spread to all commonwealth campuses.

“It’s life I’m the only one hear and I’m just going to go to class and do my thing but you end up meeting all these other people and these other veterans that are there that are kind of like a support system for you,” Kyle Larson, Sponsor for the Sponsor Program at Penn State, said.

The sponsors mentor the sponsees for the entire school year.  Penn State hopes this student veteran program will spread to all commonwealth campuses.
