Centre County, Pa- Drivers on I-99 will soon see the speed limit increase over a 16-mile stretch of the highway.
PennDOT plans to increase the speed limit from 55 to 65 miles per hour between the Gray’s Woods exit and where the highway ends at the I-80 interchange near Bellefonte.
PennDOT says the decision to increase the speed limit was supported by requested speed studies.
No date has been set for when the speed limit will change. It will not take effect until maintenance crews have installed new speed limit signs.
Work on that installation is expected to begin next week, but PennDOT says this may depend on the weather.
PennDOT says they will conduct a pre and post speed limit comparison study once the speed limit change is official.
Any crashes after the increase will be evaluated by PennDOT.
