Local News

Police have made an arrest in a Somerset County kidnapping case nearly 20 years after the crime happened.

Police say September 19, 1999, Timothy David Nelson kidnapped a 10-year-old off the streets in Shade Township, drove her to a remote location in West Virginia, and assaulted her. The victim was released the same day. Police conducted an extensive investigation following the incident, but no leads developed.

In 2004, with DNA analysis, it was determined that the accused was linked to two other unsolved kidnappings in 1998 in Hagerstown, Maryland. No other leads developed.

The crime was solved in late 2018 and State Police arrested Nelson Tuesday morning in Cumberland, Maryland.

We expect to learn more about this case in a news conference scheduled for Thursday at 11 a.m.
