Sandy Township Police warn people about fraudulent phone calls asking for money.
An 81-year-old Treasure Lake man reported that he had received a call from an individual claiming to be a public defender and that his grandson needed bail money due to being involved in a wreck that caused damage to municipal property.
The man was instructed to buy $2,100 worth of Google cards to use for the bail. The man followed the caller’s instructions and later found out the call was fraudulent, causing him to lose that money.
Police encourage residents to never attempt to pay for any transaction over the phone with gift cards of any kind, especially when you do not know the caller.
