The F-D-A has issued a mandatory recall for a product used for pain relief and opioid withdrawal.

The administration says several Kratom products made by triangle pharmanaturals L-L-C tested positive for salmonella.

The F-D-A says it issued the recall after the company failed to comply with its request for a voluntary recall.

Kratom is a plant native to Malaysia.

The leaves are traditionally crushed and made into tea to treat pain or reduce opioid withdrawal cravings.

In the U-S, Kratom is sold as a dietary supplement in the form of pills, powders, capsules and tea.

In February….the F-D-A issued a statement about Kratom saying that there is no evidence the product is “safe or effective for any medical use.”
