University Park, Pa- Tuesday, Penn State announced their Main Campus will be the new home of a national center for Greek life research and reform.
WTAJ spoke with Damon Sims, the Vice President of Student Affairs at PSU to learn more about the research center. Sims says PSU, like many other universities, previously based their Greek life policies on ideas that have limited research to support the policies.
With the research center’s move to PSU, Sims says the University will take research and begin to implement it, something he says has been lacking.
PSU also says they will look for scholars in different disciplines to contribute to the research and make use of PSU students involved in Greek life to assist in studies.
Sims also told WTAJ the current research needs an update.
“A lot of the research that has been done is old, we need some more current research. I think the student population has changed…. expectations have changed and we’re gonna do it better… we’re gonna do more of it, we’re gonna think of questions that haven’t been asked before,” Sims said.
