Tuesday, the Centre County commissioners took the next step towards raising the hotel tax from 2 and a half to 5 percent.
They voted to start a 10 day advertisement period on the ordinance, which will begin by Friday.
During that time the ordinance will be posted on the county’s website and residents will be able to leave comments with their thoughts.
The Centre County Visitor’s Bureau says increasing the tax would help marketing efforts for the area, which could help bring in more people and money into Happy Valley.
Commissioners could pass the hotel tax as early as February 5th.
