Somerset Borough Police are warning about a possible scam in the area.
The Police Chief says they responded to reports of several people soliciting for an energy supplier company.
They asked to look at the residents old utility bills, but when the resident asked to see their permit, they flashed some type of I.D. too quick for them to see.
Police found one of the suspects and determined they didn’t have a permit for solicitation.
Chief Randy Cox says if the company is legitimate, they will have a license.
“There’s plenty of ways if a resident were interested in switching energy suppliers,” he said. “There’s plenty of ways to do that in which the resident would have much, much more control over the transaction, rather than someone appearing at your door.”
Cox emphasized most of the time solicitors in the area are legitimate, however, it’s important to be aware.
