A municipal consolidation could be in the works for several Johnstown communities.
Westmont Hilltop Board of Education President, Dan Hill, wants to create a committee to look into consolidating communities near Westmont, including Upper Yoder Township, Westmont and Southmont Borough. Hill would also like to include Ferndale, Brownstown, and Lower Yoder.
Hill says he got the idea last year when Westmont consolidated its schools, which saved money and resources. Now he says combining city resources could do the same.
“If we could develop one big municipality that could attract commercial business and working towards common goals, it would also help our school become stronger,” said Hill. “With the demographics and the unity we would share in the community.”
Hill will officially propose the idea to create a special committee during Thursday night’s Westmont School Board meeting at 7 p.m.
The public is invited to attend the meeting to voice their opinions.
