Altoona card shop robbery suspect taken into custody

ALTOONA Pa. (WTAJ) — A suspect in connection to an armed robbery that took place at a cards shop in Altoona has been taken into custody, according to the Altoona Police Department (APD).

Jayson Hodges

Jayson Hodges, 51 of Trafford, was arrested Thursday for his reported involvement in the Tuesday, Sept. 14 robbery at Juniata Cards along North 4th Ave. Detectives coordinated with the Trafford Police Department and conducted surveillance at Hodges’ residence on the 400 block of Duquesne Avenue in Trafford, according to APD Sgt. Matthew Plummer.

Police identified a vehicle outside the residence they say was seen in surveillance video following the robbery. Detectives also saw Hodges wearing the same pants and shoes as the suspect during the robbery.

A search warrant was obtained from a Magisterial District Judge in Westmoreland County and executed on the residence. Officers reportedly recovered sports cards, clothing from the robbery, a cellular telephone, a tablet, a plastic tote with purple handles and a Ruger P95 9mm handgun with (9) rounds of ammunition in the magazine.

Police say Hodges admitted the gun used during the robbery was real and he had stolen it from a residence in Greensburg. Hodges also told officers he had purchased sports cards from the shop 20 years prior and spent the money obtained from the robbery on Halloween decorations and other items.

Police additionally found Hodges to be on State Parole and was convicted of previous Felony Burglary offenses prohibiting him from owning or possessing firearms. Hodges waived bail arraignment in Westmoreland County and was transported to Blair County Prison for processing and arraignment.

Hodges is charged with felony robbery, persons not to possess a firearm, firearms not to be carried without a license, receiving stolen property, unlawful restraint, terroristic threats, simple assault, false imprisonment, recklessly endangering another person, tampering with evidence and retail theft.

His preliminary hearing has been scheduled for Sept. 29.
