Local News

HOLLIDAYSBURG, Pa. (WTAJ) — Video of two teens throwing and kicking a snapping turtle near a Blair County pond is going viral.  WTAJ has learned what police are doing about it, and how the community is reacting.

David Kaplan reports residents are sad, sick, and disgusted tonight after watching this video.

You can see one teen picking the turtle up by the tale, throwing it down and stomping on the animal.

“I don’t know how you can do that,” said Carey Pierce of Altoona.

Pierce says she was horrified when she first saw the video.

“It’s a disgusting video, I don’t understand how anybody can do that to another living creature at all,” said Pierce

So disgusting that local folks weren’t happy,

“I don’t get that.  I don’t get what goes through your mind.”

Even forcing police to step in and say they were investigating.

Through my investigation we were able to identify the two juveniles and go through our continued investigation,” said Shea Stayer, Patrolman of Hollidaysburg Police Department.

Police say the two teen boys both go to Hollidaysburg area junior high school and one has been cooperating.

Pierce says she’s happy police are acting on this quickly.

“I’m glad that they were taking it seriously they weren’t ignoring it, and it was a case of kids will be kids or boys will be boys,” said Pierce.
