Pilot program in Centre County allows Sheriff’s Department to check in on senior citizens

Local News

The Centre County Sheriff’s Department has been chosen to participate in a pilot program that aims to help area seniors have a better peace of mind.

It’s called the The Sheriff’s Senior Check-In Service and features a daily or scheduled check-in phone call from the office for anyone enrolled.

If the enrollee is in distress or does not answer the phone after several tries, the Sheriff’s Office will do a safety check.

The program is for seniors over 65 years old who are living independently.

If you’re interested in the call-in service, you must enroll in the program which is expected to run through this year.
