Philipsburg Fire Chief didn’t drive to a house fire… instead he ran there

Local News

Philipsburg, Centre County, Pa- Chief Jeffrey Harris from the Philipsburg Fire Department lives two homes away from the house that caught fire Monday morning on Loch Lomand Road.

Harris was home at the time of the fire, so rather than putting his foot to the gas of a fire truck, he sprinted down to the home to home to help those looking to escape the fire.

“I was shocked when I heard what the location of the fire was…I got here, pulled the people out the side door… and got them out,” Harris said.

After that, Harris saw plenty of fire trucks arrive on scene.

“Man power was very good for this time of the day… especially on a Monday morning,” Harris said.

Help came from crews all over the region.

“There are least 8 right now, 9 or 10 counting EMS units, plus the Salvation Army’s here to provide drinks to the firefighters,” Harris told WTAJ Monday afternoon.

A fire marshall was called to the scene to determine the cause of the fire. The official report for the cause of the fire has not been released.

Chief Harris told WTAJ Monday evening that foul play is not suspected.
