A local man says he wants to open a Christian recovery house for addicts and substance abusers in Altoona.

Pastor Jim Litzinger says he’s trying to raise money to buy and renovate a former personal care home on 7th avenue and 23rd street in Altoona. He plans to offer an 18-month program featuring counseling, Biblical studies and training.

“It was a vision that God had given me about 5 years ago and I finally took the authoritative stance and I claimed it and I said okay, God  I’m ready, let’s go for it,” Pastor Litzinger explains.

He says he expects to open the recovery center within the next six to eight months, and estimates the start-up costs at $80,000 and $100,000. He’s looking to area businesses and churches for funding.
