“Operation Safe Stop”

Local News

It’s National School Bus Safety Week and in State College, police are reminding drivers to stop for school bus stop signs, with Operation Bus Stop.”

Police say so far this year, school bus cameras have caught 27 cars driving past school bus stop signs, some times even speeding.

“It’s really sad that people don’t take the time to stop for school buses, because it only takes a split second for a really tragic accident to happen and our kids are really precious, not only for us as parents, but to our community, because of course they’re our future, and as a parent my kids are my whole life,” Jamie Barbarich, mother of elementary school students, said.

State College police want to remind you if you fail to stop for a school bus stop sign, you can get a $250 fine, plus court costs and a 60 day license suspension.
