PATTON TOWNSHIP, CENTRE COUNTY, Pa. (WTAJ) — Fire crews have determined the cause of an apartment fire in Patton Township.

According to the Alpha Fire Company, lightning hit the building and caused the apartment fire. Multiple crews responded to the apartment complex on Vairo Blvd. Sunday at 5:35 p.m.

When firefighters arrived, there was heavy smoke coming from the third floor of the building. As crews fought the fire from the inside, it became too intense and crews were pulled out. No one was inside when crews made their initial search.

The fire caused significant damage, and officials said 24 units were displaced and six of those units suffered fire damage.

One firefighter was taken to the hospital as a precaution. None of the residents were injured.
