Conemaugh Memorial Medical Center’s Mentoring in Medicine is now accepting applicants for their annual program.

This 10-week program is designed to give area college students the opportunity to shadow physicians at Conemaugh Memorial Medical Center in radiology, obstetrics, orthopedics, and ER/trauma departments. Students can choose a department to shadow for two weeks.

“We are pleased to once again offer this great opportunity to students in our region,” said Dr. Richard Schroeder, an Orthopedic Surgeon who co-founded the program with his wife Diana Schroeder who serves as program coordinator. “Mentoring in Medicine allows students who are considering a career in medicine a firsthand look at a career as a physician. It also helps them begin to sort out what specialties interest them the most.”

Applications are only available to junior or senior college and medical school students.

“Each student must be a rising junior or senior in college with a focus in pre-med, or must be a first year medical student and have taken four out of the five required courses which are pre-med, calculus, biology, organic and/or inorganic chemistry and physics,” said Diana Schroeder, Mentoring in Medicine program coordinator. “Another requirement is that the participants be from Cambria or surrounding counties.”

Any student who would like to apply for the program or has questions can contact Diana Schroeder via email at dschroed@pitt.edu or 814-255-4170.

Applications are due February 15, 2019.
