Mapleton-Community in danger of losing pool

Local News

A Huntingdon County town may be without one of it’s most popular family-friendly attractions this summer.

In Mapleton folks are concerned they won’t have a functioning pool this Summer.

The local pool it’s how most families help their kids beat the heat and release their energy in the Summer.

“We just come through our yard and walk right over,” Kristi Keel, Mother in Mapleton said.
But this year, the Mapleton Borough pool, a community treasure since 1949, is in danger of staying closed.

Kristi Keel, says her kids, were looking forward to going to the pool, and keep asking her when it will open.

“When I told them that it might no this year, they were devastated.  Kadence, she actually kinda’ got teary eyed,” Kristi Keel, Mother, Mapleton.

A lack of funding for a leak and a new filter tank, as well as a need for volunteers is keeping the pool from it’s annual scheduled memorial day opening.

“The last couple years we knew we had a leak that’s in the deep part of the pool, we also have the filter tank itself that’s antiquated, it needs to be replaced,” Michael Corbin, Mayor for the Mapleton Borough, said.

Mapelton Borough Mayor Michael Corbin says they don’t have the about ten thousand dollars needed for the repairs.

“Having the pool, it keeps the community kids busy,” Keel said.

She hopes something changes by Summer break.  “By doing that it keeps them out of trouble.”
