Man facing charges after pretending to be a doctor

While wondering the halls of the Somerset Hospital, police say Todd Knisely was doing research on hospital security, but without permission.

An employee first stopped him in a patient care unit, where he identified himself as part of the IT department.

“He said his name was Johnson and then proceeded to ask for directions on how to get to the IT department.  This made the employee more suspicious,” Somerset Borough Police Chief Randy Cox explained.

Police told WTAJ the employee asked Knisely to leave the area.

Another employee later found him in a patient care area again, wearing a Somerset Hospital white lab coat.  The employee confronted him and asked if he was doctor, to which he said yes.

“At this point she summoned other staff members and they pretty much corralled him, detained him not using any type of force, until the police were able to arrive.”

Police said Knisely told them he did his research and wasn’t doing anything wrong.

“Mr. Knisely told officers that he was conducting a “sci-op” operation research that he uses as some sort of blog or post that he maintains.”

Chief Cox praised the hospital staff on how they handled the situation and kept everyone safe.

“When they see something that doesn’t seem right to them and they are about to confront someone they have to worry about how that person is going to react.”

Knisely is facing several misdemeanor charges.  We’re told serving any jail time will depend on if he has a prior record.

His preliminary hearing is set for September 16.
