Lockdown lifted, SCI Somerset guard released from hospital

Local News

A lockdown at SCI Somerset has been lifted after a guard was attacked by an inmate.

Prison officials said the attack happened Friday afternoon. That guard was taken to the hospital and has since been released. There’s no update on the extent of his injuries.

The prison was placed on lockdown after the attack. That lockdown was lifted Monday morning and normal operations have resumed.

This is the second attack at SCI Somerset this year. In February, Sgt. Mark Baserman died from his injuries after he was beaten by an inmate.
