Johnstown man arrested after assaulting pregnant woman in Altoona

ALTOONA, Pa. (WTAJ) — Logan Township Police responded to a domestic dispute at the Motel 6 in Altoona involving a woman who was four months pregnant.

Police reported that just after 5 a.m. on Thursday, June 13, officers arrived on the scene and could hear a woman in distress inside of a room. After making contact with the man inside the room, identified as 30-year-old Depreist A McCall of Johnstown, they saw noticeable physical injury to the woman including cuts to the left side of her belly, causing blood to soak through her shirt.

Police say the woman was assaulted and strangled by McCall and when she tried to escape, she was thrown to the ground.

McCall was arrested and charged with aggravated assault, aggravated assault to an unborn child, strangulation and a few non-felony charges.

McCall had a $75,000 cash-bail set.
