Inferno, Pizza Restaurant & Bar in Downtown State College, will be replaced by HiWay Pizza

Local News

State College, Pa- Monday, it was announced that one pizza restaurant in downtown State College will replace another.

Inferno Brick Oven & Bar on College Avenue will be replaced by HiWay Pizza this summer.

This will be HiWay Pizza’s third location in State College. Both HiWay Pizza and Inferno are owned by the same parent company: Dante’s Restaurants and NIghlife.

Shop owners tell WTAJ that current Inferno employees will stay-on as staff for Hi-Way Pizza. They added that before Inferno opened in 2008, a HiWay Pizza shop used to occupy the 340 E. College Ave. location (where Inferno currently stands).

“All things old are often new again and so now has come the time for Inferno to take a bow and allow HiWay Pizza Pub to once again carry our pizza banner downtown,” said J.P Mills, Dante’s Director.

No exact timeline was announced for when HiWay will open, but Mills did say:

“We will work quickly over the next few weeks to transition into the HiWay Pizza brand including our full menu of pizza, salads, burgers, cheesesteaks, wings and more. We feel this change is timely and builds on our recent focus in HiWay Pizza.”

HiWay currently has two other locations: one on North Atherton Street, and one on West College Avenue.

In regard to the menu of the newly announced HiWay Pizza location, Dante’s director Jennifer Zangrilli said, “Enhancing the atmosphere and guest experience as well as expanding our food and drink menu is our focus, but don’t worry, the same great food that made HiWay a State College tradition will remain.”

She added: “The closing of Inferno gives us the ability to grow our HiWay brand and celebrate the pizza that our company was built on.”

HiWay Pizza first opened in downtown State College on Hiester Street in 1963.
