SMICKSBURG, INDIANA Co., PA (WTAJ) – The Pennsylvania State Police, in Indiana would like to alert residents of an incident in which a 78-year-old woman recently fell victim to a scam and was deceived out of $13,000.00.
It occurred when a man contacted her by phone on May 1, 2019. He claimed to be an attorney requesting bail money for the victim’s grandson. The suspect convinced her to mail $13,000.00 in cash to an address in New York City.
This is a common scam that, unfortunately, continues to occur as criminals target vulnerable members of our communities. The Pennsylvania State Police asks that you share this information with your family members and help them to identify and avoid common scams.
