State College, Pa- 2018 was a year of many development projects in downtown State College…some were completed and others are just getting underway.
“All three of these look to come online in august of 2020…,” said Ed LeClear, Planning Director for State College Borough.
LeClear is keeping a close eye on three projects under construction downtown.
They include “The Standard” — at the corner of College Avenue and Atherton street. It will have 12 stories — with commercial space and just under 250 apartments.
The second project — “Here at State College” is at the former Garner Street lot. It will also be 12 stories high with retail space, more than 225 apartments, and Penn State Hillel’s Community Center.
And then there’s the Pugh Centre — at the intersection of Pugh Street and Beaver Avenue. At 7 stories high — it will have 55 apartments — plus commercial space.
Two projects completed last year — the Edge and the Rise buildings are still looking for businesses to fill their street-level property. And with the addition of the new projects….more commercial space will be available
“If you look at an aggregate for downtown, we’re talking about almost 200,000 square feet of commercial space…. that is the equivalent of about one-and-a-half sizes of a Walmart,” LeClear said.
He is confident they won’t be empty for long.
“This is class-a space it’s some of the most modern, newest space… so it is attractive…obviously price point needs to work as far as getting them filled,” he said.
